But what is Maurice Ravel, this year\u2019s big anniversary celebrant, up to?<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>We didn\u2019t have to search long to find him at his favourite spot, the beach at St Jean-de-Luz on the Basque Atlantic coast. Our new Urtext edition of \u201cLa Valse\u201d will not be published until autumn 2025, but we took the opportunity to give the author an advance copy. At his first reaction: \u201cI can\u2019t play this,\u201d we refrained from replying: \u201cIt\u2019s your own fault!\u201d Instead, we referred him to Boris Giltburg\u2019s ingenious fingerings that make studying the piece immensely easier.<\/p>\n<p>In any case, we wish Monsieur Ravel every success when he sits down with the score at the piano, and we wish you, dear readers, a wonderful, relaxing summer.<\/p>\n<p>Sincerely yours,<br \/>\nG.
